It's a small sample size, but it does appear that Schultz and Rocco are not the direct cause of the Galaxies' season-opening losing streak. Schultz was 'working' in Austin. Rocco missed due to a sudden family emergency. Durst and Nice Guy Timmy Lyons did a swell job filling in.
In what is growing to be a significant sample size, the Galaxies came away with only one goal and another L. The first two Fiesta goals resulted from a couple of boneheaded plays from Captain Galaxy in the first. We were down 3-0 after the 2nd. In the 3rd, Danny 'Dangles' Vincent took a nice pass from Timmy, after Curtis picked McCaig's pocket, and got the Galaxies on the board with a seriously silky move to slide it 5-hole on Russpresso and break the shutout. It was a beauty of a goal. Late in the game, the Galaxies made the unfortunate decision to pull Killer with the puck on McCaig's tape. Despite my Fuhr-like effort, he put away the ENG to make it another 4-1 loss for the Galaxies.
It was a back and forth game. Both teams had lots of chances, and neither team ever got pinned down in their zone for long stretches. Both netminders played well. Beyond (me) limiting (my) defensive mistakes, we have to find a way to score more than one goal. We're gonna try for 2 next week and see where that leads. Baby steps.

The Fiesta came into week 3 looking to take 2 points in this one after leaving one on the table last game. We knew we had to be very aware of the speed and talent the galaxies have, while also trying not to get stuck playing defensively.
Konstantino gets us going with a beauty of a tuck in the 1st period, channeling his inner Datsyuk. The Fiesta would keep the party rolling with another goal by McCaig with a nice feed from Lauth. We would have some sustained pressure on Caldwell, but he was solid for the Galaxies.
For a stint in the second we were having some difficulties getting the puck out and as I went to take it up the ice, I got pick pocketed at our blueline leaving the team outnumbered. The puck made its way over to Dan and he made no mistake putting it past Russ. Shutout gone by my bonehead play.
The third period would see more back and forth action with plenty of great stops by Russ, bailing us out when we needed him to. Galaxies pull Caldwell and somehow shortly after we get possession and put one away on the empty net. Great game by the Fiesta and outstanding game by Russ.
