Week 11 and the Raud Squad is taking on the #2 Fiesta. Back-to-back weeks taking on the #2 team in the league. A tough challenge for the squad as we face the top four teams in four straight games.
The Marauders knew this was going to be a battle, facing off against one of the top offensive teams in the league. We knew we would have to stick to our defensive fundamentals to remain competitive against the high-flying Fiesta.
Not much to report on in the first two periods and two minutes. Both teams had good chances to score, but neither team could crack the Caldwell code. Both goalies played outstanding. I thought we were headed for a 0-0 tie, but “Silky” Sauve had other ideas. Fired up to be playing against his former team, Sauve decided to take the game into his own hands. Two minutes into the third, Sauve breaks up a play at center ice, chases a puck down into the corner, digs it out, and finds Pearson in the slot for the breakthrough goal of the game. The puck went off the post and hit “Killer” in the back so not much he could do on that one.
As time was running down the Fiesta were forced to take a more aggressive approach which led to more chances for the Raud Squad. Jack “of all trades” would put one past Caldwell on a breakaway, and shortly after he would put in another off a Bazzy rebound. Pearson would put in the fourth and final off the draw and a pass from Taz.
3 Quick Notes:
1. Sauve gets the POG. A lot of people to consider in this one, but he played great against his former team, and he was the difference in the game winning goal.
2. Bazzy was a pit-bull in this game. He was draped all over McCaig and he has the rainbow-colored bruise to prove it.
3. The battle of the CaldWalls goes to the kid in this round. Luckily “Killer” doesn’t have to wait long to get another crack at the kid. Both goalies deserved a win in this one.

The Caldwell's put on a goaltending show in this one. Kevin deserved a much better result that what shows on the scoresheet. Good thing is we have a rematch in 2 weeks. Looking forward to that.
