What a great week 1 it was! All the games were close, and the bar turnout was top notch. What more could you ask for?
Huge shout out to Filar, Soper, Walker, and Jones for making this all possible and for putting up with us reps.
As the Marauder rep was getting ready for game 1 and hoping to get his team prepared with a gameplan, he started to get a little worried as only 5 people were in the room 10 minutes before gametime. As the first game finished the rest of the team filtered in sweaty and exhausted. Glad to see the new Raud Squad is committed to getting into mid-season form as soon as possible!
The new look Raud Squad was looking to start the season off strong with a win and knew they would have to continue their defensive ways from a season ago. The first period was full of a lot of back-and-forth tight play with both teams exchanging penalties. It was the Raud Squad who would strike first with Jim “The Tasmanian Devil” Tassis putting a rebound between the legs of the Frenchmen. Taz was left alone in front of the net and Andrew Bazzy and Jack Thomas were able to tic-tac-toe their way to find him.
In the second the Aerostars would find a way to respond with Vic Quattrin putting a rebound into an empty net after Russ came up with a big save. The D-man (Jensen) let Russ down on that one.
The third period was the tensest period of them all with both teams struggling to find a way to gain the lead. It was the Marauders who would eventually breakthrough with Pearson finding a pass from the rep at center ice and knifing his way through the defense and putting a shot through the Frenchman. Great goal from the rookie, I am sure it is the first of many to come. The Aerostars put the pedal to the metal the rest of the period, but the vintage mini van couldn’t muster up enough momentum.
Huge thanks to Russ-ppresso and Max Spurlin for subbing.
3 Quick Notes:
1. Jim Tassis stat line – 1 goal, 0 penalties. He is a new man this season and was the steal of the draft in week 1.
2. The Aerostars have a ton of speed and are going to be a good team. We were on our heels for most of the game and Russ stood on his head.
3. The Spurlin boys are monsters. I am not sure how they were fed as kids, but I am sure it involved a piece of raw meat being thrown in between them and then fighting each other like lions. Joe dove at the puck headfirst late in the third to clear the puck and secure the win. 1 penalty each for the Spurlin boys.

The flying vans are back for the 23-24 season, same team with a mix of former Aerostars and some new. We kick off the season with one of the best teams from last year, the Marauders. Looking at their roster i expect more of the same.
We hit the ice and i felt tired just coasting around our zone a few times, first game is always rough.
Close game throughout. Rauds win the first with a goal from Jim "The Trashman" Tassis ramming a second effort behind Marc. Aerostars win the 2nd period with Vic AKA The Better Quattrin netting one on a dime from Kalinski. Rauds get another in the 3rd to take the lead. The flying vans pull Marc and go for the tie but we aren't able to get anything by sub goalie Russ.
Rauds take the first game 2-1.
Great game by both teams. Clearly some tired legs and miscommunications out there. We'll get better as the season goes on. Thanks to Easton, Richie and El Presidente for subbing.
Aerostars look like an early favorite for top consumption team, may be a 2 case team as we ran out of brew halfway through the 7pm game. Nice bar showing for week one, hurting today.
We'll look to get on the winning side versus the new look TBolts.
